How Rigby Star ticks the boxes for alignment to the renewed Framework

The renewed Framework has focused significantly on early reading. Phonics has been pulled out as one of the six ‘main aims' of the renewed Framework and a new conceptual framework called the ‘simple view of reading' has been introduced, emphasising the distinction between ‘word recognition' and ‘language comprehension' skills within reading. The Rigby Star Family can help teachers get to grips with these key changes in early reading in the following ways:

Rigby Star Phonics

Fast Phonics First
An engaging, interactive synthetic phonic programme for discrete, daily phonic lessons, covering all the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 word recognition skills required and fully aligned to the six phases of phonic progression.
Decodable readers
Starting at just eight phonemes, these colourful, exciting stories and non-fiction texts will provide your children with all the enjoyment and satisfaction of reading a book at the earliest possible point, and give you even more opportunities to practice decoding.

Rigby Star Shared

A shared reading series, including fiction and non-fiction Big Books, each with Teacher's Guides which help to teach both dimensions of reading; word recognition and language comprehension, as well as speaking, listening and drama skills.

Rigby Star Guided

A guided reading series, including fiction, non-fiction and phonic-opportunity readers, each with Teaching Versions which pull out the distinct teaching needed for both word recognition and language comprehension opportunities, as well as linking every reader to objectives from the 12 strands of learning.

Rigby Star Independent

An independent reading series fully aligned to the new learning objectives, including tailored advice to parents which reflects the recommendations of the ‘simple view of reading.'
